FOUNDATION FOUNDER BIOGRAPHIES

Dr. Monte Schwartz, D.V.M.

Dr. Schwartz was born in Denver, Colorado where he graduated with his D.V.M. degree from Colorado State University.  He was once the veterinarian for the stars' animals in the Hollywood area before moving to the Bay Area where he built Boulevard Pet Hospital where he continues to work.

In addition to helping with intake of puppy mill dogs, Dr. Schwartz has been giving back to the community for many years.  He has offered reduced costs for local rescue groups, providing them with affordable medical care.  He performs spays and neuters, vaccinations, health exams, dental cleanings and much more.

A pioneer in pediatric spays and neuters, he was one of the first veterinarians in the Silicon Valley to offer this service to rescue groups as early as the 1980s.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Schwartz treated eight orphaned dogs who tested positive for heartworm.  NorCal Animal Rescue Friends rescued, fostered and “rehomed” all of the dogs who are now living happily with their new families.

If you peek into his office, you will often see a dog or cat curled up in his lap as he sits and pets them, assuring them that life is going to be ok.  A modest man who does not welcome fanfare, he treasures the licks and snuggles of the animals he’s helped save.

In addition to their furry family, they enjoy traveling and together they've visited 26 countries.

Both have a passion and compassion for animals and education.  Because of this, they decided to form the Schwartz Family Veterinary Scholarship and Animal Welfare Foundation so they could provide assistance through
a scholarship program and assist animal and animal welfare groups with their various needs and visions.

Charmaine Pollack

Charmaine Pollack was born in Colorado. She was raised in San Jose, California. As a young girl she knew she wanted to pursue a career in Animal Care because of her passion for animals.

This passion has lead her to receive the training and knowledge as a Veterinary Technician where she is able to assist in the care and needs of our animal friends first hand.

She is the Lead Veterinary Technician at Boulevard Pet Hospital. She has been working in the Veterinary field for over 20 years or as she fondly says it is not really working if you love what you do!

Her position has given her the opportunity to mentor students during their Veterinary Technician externships as well as train many others in this field. She is grateful for the opportunity she’s had in helping others in achieving their goals in the aid of animals.

Charmaine volunteers her grooming skills to help give comfort to those neglected animals whom are surrendered into Toy Breed Rescue. She owns three dogs with special needs. Willy is her sweet, diabetic Miniture Pinscher, Stevie a cute, crooked nose, blind Shih Tzu and Spike a teeny tiny deaf Pomeranian. Stevie and Spike were adopted through Toy breed Rescue.

Charmaine is family oriented and has helped to raise her niece and nephew. Because of her skills, compassion, education and progressive attitude she will be an asset as one of our Directors.
