SUCCESS STORIES
– PONCHO
|
Hola! Si, my
name is Poncho and I
am a Giant
Schnauzer, born in
Venezuela eight
years ago.
Thus, I am bilingual
but my “people” like
to add, “This only
means Poncho doesn’t
mind particularly
well in English or
Spanish.”
Fortunately, for me,
soon after my
arrival in the USA,
I met Loree Levy-Schwartz at
Boulevard Pet
Hospital where she
rescues all
varieties of Schnauzers.
I had two short
trial adoptions
(maybe I was a bit
rambunctious in
those days) before I
moved permanently to
Lodi, California
with Kelli and Curt
Page.
And there I have
been living happily
ever after.
Well, at least
that’s true from my
point of view! |
 |
|
In the beginning,
there were times
that Kelli said it
was a bit like
living with a devil.
She had read
somewhere that
Giants finally calm
down at about three.
As the date of my
third birthday
approached, she was
literally marking
the calendar in
hopes that some
miraculous maturity
would set in.
Happily for my
adoptive parents, I
have “mellowed”
through the years
but never have I
lost my infectious
personality which
perfectly matches my
“flying nun” ears.
For some time now, I
have been going to
work each day with
my Papa who owns
West Coast Canvas at
Tower Park Marina.
There, I am his
constant shadow
(nicknamed “Velcro
Dog”), and take my
role of guarding the
shop very seriously.
Mama and Papa
decided early on
that leaving me at
home alone to watch
the house wasn’t
working out well. I
found numerous ways
to get into
mischief.
These included, but
are not limited to:
removing all the
bottles from the
wine cabinet;
turning on the bar
water faucet;
stealing the guest
soaps from the
bathrooms; and last
but not least,
hiding from the
housecleaner.
After her frantic
phone calls to my
parents that I must
have run away — and
hours of Mama and
Papa scouring the
nearby neighborhoods
— I decided it was
time to reappear and
happily jumped out
of the bushes of my
very own backyard!
Occasionally I need
a break from work
and my parents need
a break for me, so I
visit Grammy K and
Grampy D in San
Jose. They are
always delighted to
see me and we take
long walks, play
with tennis balls,
and swim in the
neighbor’s pool.
I recently
celebrated another
birthday and once
again, I want to say
“Gracias” to Loree
for rescuing me and
helping give me my
wonderful life!
